Obituary of John Louis DePeano
Former President I.B.E.W. Local 488
John Louis DePeano, age 75, of Milford, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 in the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven surrounded by his family. Born in Bridgeport on July 3, 1933, he was a son of the late John and Lucy Iannarone DePeano and a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. DePeano was initiated into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in November of 1959. John admirably served the membership of I.B.E.W. Union Local #488 in many capacities. He was president of Local 488 for 21 years, also serving as recording secretary, Chairman of the Executive Board, the Negotiating Committee, the Pension Committee, the Health and Welfare committee, the Annuity Committee and the Chairman of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC), the instructor of the JATC program, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee Trustee Education Fund. He was a delegate to the International Conventions in 1982, 1986, 1991 and 1996. He was also a National Building Trades Convention delegate, an executive board member for the Connecticut State Building Trades, Chairman of the Safety Committee, Trustee for the National Employee Benefit Fund and Chairman of City of Bridgeport Building Trades Negotiating Committee. John recently retired from the City of Bridgeport, Board of Education, where he worked as an electrician in the Maintenance Department. He loved his family and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a huge fan of the New York Giants, the New York Yankees and the UCONN Huskies. Survivors include his wife of 51 years Eleanor Pliska DePeano, four children, Cheryl Bugaj and her husband Andrew of Milford, David DePeano of New Canaan, Mary DiCosmo and her husband Bruno of New Canaan and John Robert DePeano and his wife Susanne of Milford, two brothers, Albert DePeano and his wife Lucille and Angelo Charles DePiano, all of Trumbull, a sister, Eleanor Litzie of California, five grandchildren, Matthew Bugaj, Alyssa DiCosmo, Michael and Sarah DiCosmo and Katie DePeano, nieces and nephews, Thomas DePeano, Melissa McArdle, Gary Litzie, Jeff Litzie, Laurie Combs and Christopher Pliska as well as several additional nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services will take place on Monday, December 29, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael the Archangel Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
