Obituary of Alfred Covino

Retired Dentist Dr. Alfred (Fred) C. Covino, age 77, of Oak Bluffs, Marthas Vineyard, MA and formerly of Trumbull, died on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He is the husband of 47 years of Olga DeCarli Covino. Dr. Covino was born in Bridgeport and lived in Trumbull for 25 years, then retired to Marthas Vineyard. In addition to his wife, survivors include his son William Covino and daughter-in-law Karen Overfield of Bolton, MA, his daughter, Patricia Rudolph and his son-in-law William and his grandsons William A. and Nicholas Rudolph, all of Monroe, his brother Dr. Michael Covino and his sister-in-law, Christina Covino of Trumbull and his sister Janice Covino of Fairfield as well as many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Joseph and Elvira Covino. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in January 1951 during the Korean War. He attended Hospital Corps School in 1951 and Field Medical Training School in January of 1953. He was assigned as a corpsman with the First Marine Division in Korea. During that period he was awarded many medals and citations. He was discharged in January of 1955. A graduate of Central High School, he did his pre-dental studies at the University of Bridgeport. He graduated from Tufts University School of Dentistry in 1962. While attending Tufts he worked as a Lab Technician at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA. Dr. Covino practiced general dentistry out of his office in Bridgeport for many years. He was a member of the Bridgeport Dental Association, the Connecticut Dental Association and the American Dental Association and was also a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. Upon his retirement in 1993, he and his wife moved to their summer home on Marthas Vineyard. He loved the Vineyard dearly and enjoyed many years of golfing and clamming with his friends and family. During the past year, he and Olga moved to Monroe to be closer to family and friends who have given him a great deal of support and love during his illness. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Jude Church, Monroe for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
