Obituary of John Donald Capozzi

Co-Owner of Capozzi Bros. Fuel John Donald Capozzi, beloved husband and father, age 72, of Fairfield and formerly of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday February 7, 2008 with his family by his side. Born on January 2, 1936 in Bridgeport, in the north end section which was known as the Hollow, he was a son of the late Leonard Duke Capozzi and Teresa Benedetto Capozzi. John is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Carol Buckley Capozzi; his beloved son John Donald Capozzi II, one brother, Leonard A. Capozzi Jr. and his wife Patricia of Trumbull, three sisters, Carol DEramo and her husband Joseph of Bridgeport, Marilyn J. Capozzi of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Ann Marie Capozzi of Bridgeport, two nephews, Leonard A. Capozzi III and Gregory F. Capozzi, both of Trumbull, a niece Lynne DEramo-Ortiz and her husband Daniel of Fairfield, and one great niece and goddaughter, Taylor DEramo of Fairfield. He is further survived by several other nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends. John was known to a wide circle of friends, was an enthusiastic volunteer, working tirelessly to raise funds for the revitalization of St. Raphaels Church and St. Margarets Shrine where he sat on the Board of Finance. In 2006 John received the St. Augustine Medal of Service from Bishop William E. Lori. This medal honors outstanding service to a parish, Catholic Charities or the Diocese. He loved his vegetable garden, flowers and plants. He led an exciting life, with frequent travels abroad, painting, sculpting and a love for cooking. His home was always the scene of friends and family. John was a member of the selective service for 20 years as well as being a member of the Knights of Columbus. John was a graduate of the Bridgeport Engineering Institute and was co-owner of Capozzi Bros. Fuel with his brother Lenny. John was a loving, caring and giving man who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Raphael Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m.
