Obituary of Robert J. Wright

Robert J. Wright (Bob), Age 75, of Bridgeport, formerly of Trumbull, died Thursday January 20, 2005 at Bridgeport Hospital after a long and courageous battle with bone cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Rose Marie Phyllis Aiello Wright. Bob was born in Bridgeport to Frank Percival Wright and Mae Cavanaugh Wright. He attended Fairfield Prep for three years and graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School. After graduation, Bob signed a minor league baseball contract in 1948 with the Boston Braves. He later served in the Korean War. Upon his return he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2 years from the University of Bridgeport where he was a finalist for the Fulbright Scholarship. After graduation, he attended The University of Hartford Law School at night for one year while working days for Travelers Insurance. In 1959, he opened his own insurance agency Tobin & Wright which later became Wright-Curley and then the Wright Company Insurance. In 1987, he and his sons opened the Wright Company Realtors which later became Re/Max Right Choice. Bob received numerous awards over the years including the 1990 Trumbull Business Person of the Year. He was involved in many civic activities which include being a founding member of the Trumbull Jaycees, a member of the board of directors and chairman of fund-raising for the Trumbull Monroe YMCA. Bob loved sports and devoted countless hours to coaching hundreds of kids. He was a member of the board, former manager and president of Trumbull Little League, former manager and president of Trumbull Babe Ruth League and former president of the Trumbull High Boosters Club. He also was a member of the Trumbull Board of Recreation for several years and was elected to the Trumbull Zoning Board of Appeals, on which he served for nine years. Bob was a longtime member of the St. Theresa Parish and Mill River Country Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Allison Walton of Bridgeport and four sons: Robert J. Wright II and his wife Anne of Trumbull, Jeff Wright and his wife Mary Joan of Trumbull, Todd Wright and his wife Wendy of San Diego, CA and Scott A. Wright and his wife Beverly of Trumbull. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren; Jeffrey II, Michael, Kathryn Rose, Sarah, Caroline, Hilary, Ryan and Megan. Bob is also survived by two sisters, Marian Carr of Trumbull and Shirley Billings of Trappe, MD. Bob was predeceased by his sister Eleanor Kulberg and brother Frank Wright. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral Information

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 9 AM from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10 AM in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call on Monday from 3-8 PM. Donations Information
