Obituary of Joseph L. Giaquinto
Beloved Member of the Bridgeport Community
Joseph (Joe Sandy) L. Giaquinto, Sr., age 98, of Bridgeport, a retired employee of Carpenter Steel with 47 years of service, died on Friday, June 23, 2006 in St. Vincent Medical Center with his son, Joe, Jr. by his side. Born in Bridgeport on April 9, 1908, he was a son of the late Anthony and Julia Maddalone Giaquinto and was a lifelong city resident. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Park City Council and was one of the oldest living box holding fans of the Pilot Pen Open. He was a devoted Yankee fan, coached the North End P.A.L. Baseball Champions and the Bridgeport City Open Basketball Team and was proud to have been recognized as throwing the fastest pitch for 90 year olds at Cooperstown when he was 93. He was a beloved member of the Bridgeport community, and along with his wife and dance partner they won many dance contests. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Lottie Bonkowski Giaquinto, a daughter, Lottie Gabriel, a son, Nicholas Giaquinto, Sr., three brothers, Alexander, Nicholas and Peter Giaquinto, a sister, Mary Giaquinto and a nephew, Anthony Giaquinto. Survivors include a son, Joseph L. Giaquinto, Jr., three grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Pauline Dombol of Mountainside, NJ and a cousin, Rose Pugliesi of Cooperstown, NY and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will take place on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in the Chapel Mausoleum of St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends and relatives may call on Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Donations Information
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nicholas Giaquinto Scholarship Fund or the Boys and Girls Club of Bridgeport or your favorite charity through the funeral home.
