Obituary of Carmine F. Vietri

A retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Carmine F. Vietri, Sr., age 93, of New Haven and formerly of Fairfield, died on Monday, October 6, 2008. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Assunta Carrafiello Vietri, and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Vietri was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, and along with his late wife, operated and owned Carmine and Shirleys Luncheonette, Bridgeport. He served as past president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 32 and was a member of the Elks Club, the Germania Schwaben Club, and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley MacNeil Vietri, a brother, Daniel Vietri, and two sisters, Anna Sciuto, and Theresa Smith. Survivors include a son, Carmine Vietri, Jr. and his wife Paula of Guilford, two sisters, Rose Savo of Seymour, and Victoria Tarner of Stratford, a sister-in-law, Laura Vietri of Stratford, two grandchildren, Daniel Vietri and Carissa Cost and her husband Eric, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
