Obituary of Josephine Vallillo

Josephine (Carrafiello) Vallillo, age 93, formerly of Trumbull, joined her loving husband, John into eternal rest on Thursday, March 12, 2009. Josephine was born in Bridgeport to parents, Gennaro and Rosina Carrafiello of Italy.

Josephine spent her childhood and her adult life working in the family business, Carrafiello's Dry Goods store, a landmark on Bridgeports East Side for over 40 years. During World War II, Josephine volunteered as a Nurse's Aide at St. Vincent Hospital and was a member of the Gray Ladies who assisted the Red Cross in helping the war effort. Her future husband, John was serving in the Army when they met. After many years in Bridgeport, she and John moved to Trumbull where they spent 35 years as active parishioners of St. Theresa's Church, the senior group and church functions. Josephine learned the art of crocheting and throughout the years made over 80 afghans which she gladly gave away to anyone who admired her work or who was in need. Into her 90s, she took on the task of making afghans for the troops serving the winter in Afghanistan and Iraq. While at the Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home in Stratford, she made lap blankets for friends who had relatives serving overseas.

Josephine was predeceased by her siblings, Marie Pagano, William Carrafiello and Louis Carrafiello.

Josephine was loved and cared for by her daughters, Susan Vallillo and Francine Vallillo, both of Shelton, and will be missed by many, especially her lifelong friend, Angie Scerbo of Monroe. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, Rosemary Seaman of Trumbull, Celeste Pagano of Bridgeport, Judith Carrafiello of Stratford, Debra Wilson and Elaina Carrafiello of Florida, Gerald Carrafiello of New York, Alisa Carrafiello of Vermont, Domenic Mancini of Georgia, and William Harris of New Jersey. Her great-nieces and nephews include, Denise Fair and Kelly Aulenbach of New Jersey, Jennifer Egdall of Massachusetts, and Gregory Seaman of New Hampshire. She also had great-grand nieces and nephews, Taylor and Benjamin Seaman of New Hampshire, Gretchen Aulenbach and Lilliana Fair of New Jersey; Mason and Carter Egdall of Massachusetts; Gabrielle, Cassidy ,Catherine, Louis and Victor Carrafiello of New York; Louis Carrafiello of Vermont; Dominique, Marina, Nicholas and Michael Steffan of Florida. 

Family and friends are invited to meet directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 9 A.M. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
