Obituary of Maria J. Tompkins

Hamden resident formerly of Stratford Maria J. Caiola Tompkins, age 83, of Hamden, died on Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Masonic Care in Wallingford, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport on April 9, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Fortuna Caiola and was a resident of Stratford for over 52 years before moving to Hamden. Mrs. Tompkins was very active in the Democrats of Stratford in the 1970s and 1980s and was a girls softball coach. She was fun loving, lived life to the fullest, loved to laugh and was famous for her lasagna. The most important thing in her life was her family.Survivors include her three children, Theresa Santos and her husband Rick of Hamden of whom she resided with for many years, Richard Tompkins, Jr. and his wife Mary of Stratford, Robert Tompkins and his wife Elaine of FL, a sister Lucy Yanosy of Bridgeport, six grandchildren, Robert DeLorenzo Jr., Cynthia Doughty and her husband Tim, Melissa, Sarah, Michael and Justin Tompkins, two great granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Isabella DeLorenzo as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown. There will be no calling hours.
