Obituary of Raymond Austin Breining

Raymond Austin Breining, age 79, of Monroe, died on Monday, October 11, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family after fighting a brave battle with cancer. Born in Owosso, MI on November 14, 1930, and was a son of the late Harold and Gladys Post Breining. He met and married his beloved wife Ann Louise Krimm in Williamsport, PA on October 4, 1958. Ray faced his illness each day with dignity and spiritual strength and had the love and prayers from his family, friends and strangers. He graduated from the University of Michigan, class of 1954, with a BSME and is a lifetime member U of M Alumni Association. Ray was a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of CT. He was employed at Avco/Textron Lycoming from 1954 to 1995 during which he contributed to the design and development of the Lycoming line of gas turbine engines. He was manager of test facilities design for many years and finally as Principal Engineer for product assurance and as such directed the design of many of the test facilities in the Stratford, CT, Williamsport, PA, and the Greer, SC plants. He was also involved with the EPA on Environmental Controls for Test Cell Emissions. Ray retired in 1995 from Textron Lycoming but continued consulting on gas turbine test cells/facilities around the world until 2006. He held memberships in various engineering professional organizations such as SAE, IFMA, TTFWG and TETWOG. Ray was a trustee in the Monroe Congregational Church for several years, serving on the committee that evolved the churchs current design and was also involved in the Strawberry Festival. He loved working on crossword puzzles, cooking, baking, grocery shopping, eating and golfing. He loved his John Deere tractor and his workshop where he could solve or make his projects come to life. Ray also enjoyed traveling and visiting his children and was a member of the Trumbull Congregational Church. He could always make any child smile and made his wife feel special everyday calling her his Queen. Ray takes with him our hearts and souls and will be missed forever. In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by two loving children, his daughter Susan Oven and her husband Harold of Nashville, TN, and son, Scott Breining and his wife Brenda Jo of Winston-Salem, NC, a sister, Jane Cook of MI, brothers Austin Breining and his wife Carol of FL, and Frank Breining and his wife Dian of MI, his father-in-law, Elwood Krimm of PA, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to celebrate and honor Rays life on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Trumbull Congregational Church, 3115 Reservoir Ave. with Rev. Matthew Braddock officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Donations Information In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rays name to the Trumbull Congregational Church.
