Obituary of Maria Recupero

Stratford Resident RECUPERO - Maria (Mary) Recupero, daughter of the late Domenico and Lucia Donofrio, died on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Bridgeport Hospital . She was 84 years old. Mrs Recupero was born in Alverda , PA on November 5, 1922 and moved to Bridgeport in 1943 where she worked at H.O. Canfield. In the 1950's and 1960's, Mrs. Recupero and her late husband were co-owners of the Algonquin Cleaners on East Main Street. More recently, she and her husband and son were co-owners of Recupero's Restaurant on Broadbridge Avenue. Predeceased by her husband Samuel P. Recupero Sr., she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marietta and Michael D'Ostilio of Fredricksburg, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel and Mary Ellen Recupero of Shelton and Robert and Rosemary Recupero of Stratford; a brother, Peter Donofrio of Fairfield; and a sister-in-law, Josephine DiVita of Stratford. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Heather and David Clemens of Williamsburg, VA, Michael and Jennifer D'Ostilio of Turnersville, NJ, Samuel and Melissa Recupero of Stratford, Ryan Recupero of Stratford, Tiffany Recupero of Shelton, and Kelly, Paul and Emily Recupero of Stratford; two great grandchildren, Christopher Clemens of Williamsburg and Christopher Recupero of Stratford. She was the beloved Aunt Mary to Denise and Alan Bartelson, Robert and Lynn DiVita, John Belinsky, Donna Merlo, Richard and Laurie Belinski, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Recupero was a former parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Bridgeport for over 50 years before moving to Stratford eight years ago and joining St. James Parish. Mary had the wonderful gift of compassion and touched the heart of everyone she met. She had many dear friends. She was a woman of true faith and strong religious convictions. Throughout her life time, she became the ultimate caregiver, selflessly tending to the needs of her parents, husband and brother. A faithful servant of God, she will be sadly missed by many. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Monday May 21, 2007 at 8 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 9 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Donations Information Donations may be made in Mary's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
