Obituary of Norman W. Porteous

Norman W. Porteous, age 81, of Shelton, retired Trumbull Chief of Police, died on Thursday, October 14, 2004 in Lord Chamberlain Health Care Center. Born in Stratford on February 26, 1923, he was the son of the late Harold and Sarah Wardman Porteous. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a longtime Trumbull resident before moving to Shelton. He retired as Chief of Police in 1987 after a 37 year career with the Trumbull Police Department. He was proud to be the first from the Trumbull Police Force to graduate from the FBI National Academy. Mr. Porteous was a member of the Long Hill United Methodist Church in Trumbull and the Connecticut and National Police Chiefs Association.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Janet Sherman Porteous, a son, Paul Porteous of Waterbury, a daughter, Gail Wallace and her husband, Robert, Sr. of Trumbull, five grandchildren, Penny Porteous, Jayson Porteous, Robert Wallace, Jr., Daniel Wallace and Lauren Wallace, a great grandson, Hunter and several nieces and nephews. 

Friends may meet directly at the Long Hill United Methodist Church, Trumbull for funeral services on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Family and Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
