Obituary of Martin J. Plukas

Trumbull Resident Martin John Plukas, age 88, of Trumbull, died on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 in Bridgeport Hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Nina Kostuk Plukas. Born in Bridgeport, CT on March 30, 1918, Marty was a son of the late Martin and Domicola Yurauaska Plukas. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the South Pacific as a Sergeant and received a Purple Heart. He graduated in 1950 from the University of Connecticut, School of Pharmacy and was a member of Rho Chi, The Pharmaceutical Honor Society, The American Pharmaceutical Association, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post 141. For many years before retiring to an active life, he was the owner and pharmacist of The Community Pharmacy in Lordship. Marty was an avid sports fan, fisherman and league bowler. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends at home and the Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Senior Club. Besides his devoted wife of 60 years, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Dr. Joseph Plukas and three sisters, Nellie Plukas, Marie Moore and Anne Josyln. Funeral Information Friends and relatives may call on Friday, August 11, 2006 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.
