Obituary of Michael M. Frymus
Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Danbury Hospital
Dr. Michael M. Frymus, age 51, beloved husband of Marianne Wolfertz Frymus of Stamford, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 4, 2006 at Stamford Hospital. A son of Zofia Szczesna Frymus of Trumbull and the late Walter Frymus, he was born on February 1, 1955 in Bridgeport and was a resident of Stamford for 15 years.
Dr. Frymus was a graduate of Fairfield Prep and Fairfield University, Georgetown Medical School and completed a Cardiothoracic Fellowship at Albert Einstein Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY. He was in the United States Air Force from 1981 to 1992, attaining the rank of Major and served during the Panamanian Crisis and Operation Desert Storm. He began his General Surgery Residency at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA, which he completed at Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury CT. He later moved to Loring Air Force Base, Caribou, ME, where in 1987 he received an Air Force Commendation Medal for improving the delivery of surgical care at USAF Hospital, Loring Air Force Base. His military service was completed as a Cardiac Surgeon at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. After 13 years as a Cardiac Surgeon at Albert Einstein Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY, he most recently became the chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Danbury Hospital where he began the Cardiothoracic Surgery division two years ago.
Dr. Frymus was a member of the American Medical Association, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a council member of the Bronx Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons and the New York Society for Thoracic Surgeons. His community involvement included the Polish Army Veterans Association Post #124 in Bridgeport, the Presidents Circle at Fairfield University and the Bishops Annual Appeal Circle of Charity for the Diocese of Bridgeport.
He was a parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Church, Stamford and a former parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Bridgeport where he was a member of the church choir. He took much pride in his Polish heritage and history.
In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves two loving daughters, Diana Frymus, U. S. Peace Corps, Uganda and Michaela Frymus of Stamford, a brother, Roman Frymus and his wife, Luz of Oxford, three sisters, Theresa Moody and her husband, Vonney of Oxford, Alice Frymus of Milford and Eva Accettullo of Bridgeport. Dr. Frymus is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Michael the Archangel Church, 310 Pulaski St., Bridgeport on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Internment with military honors will follow in St. Johns Cemetery, Monroe. Family and friends may call on Friday, December 8, 2006 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
