Obituary of Joan L. Szymanski

Joan L. (McKeel) Szymanski, age 92, of Monroe passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry V. Szymanski. Born in Scranton, PA on January 9, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Amy (Hess) McKeel. Early in her career, Mrs. Szymanski had been employed by A.C. Gilbert and later worked as a home health aide for many years before her retirement. She was remarkably gifted at cake decorating and bread baking and enjoyed teaching and sharing her expertise with others. Joan was a woman of great faith and practiced that faith as a longtime member of the Huntington United Methodist Church.  She was a lifetime church choir singer, hitting the highest soprano notes with the best of them! She was quite the accomplished seamstress, and was proud to have made her own wedding dress. A loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving children, Joseph Szymanski and Sheri Szymanski, both of Monroe as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Henry, she was also predeceased by her sister, Nancy J. Thomas.

Her children would like to express their gratitude for the care provided by Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice, especially Nurses Kathy C., Helen & Kristina; CNAs Sandra, Diana and Pat.

With the greatest respect for Joan's wishes (and out of fear that she will make good on her promise to drop a rock on their heads if they don't), her children are planning a private interment ceremony.  Memorial contributions may be made to Monroe Volunteer EMS (monroevems.org) or Huntington United Methodist Church (huntingtonumc.org).   Arrangements have been entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, Trumbull and online condolences may be left by visiting us at www.abriola.com.
