Obituary of Roland C. Young

Roland C. Young (Babe/Poppy), age 99 1/2, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice Giannini Young. Born in Bridgeport on August 30, 1924, he was the son of the late Andrew Young. Roland was employed as a Head Custodian for the Trumbull School System for over 20 years where he retired to care for his special grandchildren. Prior to that, he was employed at Borden's Dairy as a Milkman and also built homes on the side. He was well known for the many walls he built at his home in Trumbull. Friends would stop by and visit whenever they saw Babe sitting on his wall at the end of the day to chat. Most recently, Poppy became a fixture at the Pink Cupcake Shack as their customers favorite storyteller. He met many wonderful people while snacking on cupcakes.

Roland loved to walk, putter around the yard and in his basement but his true joy was in his grandchildren and great grandchildren, looking forward to their visits and calls. They always made him smile.

Roland was survived by his two children, Joseph Young and his wife Lisa of Milford and Diane Mercado and her husband Robert of Monroe, his cherished grandchildren, Kiely Treschitta and her husband Kenny, Joseph Mercado and his wife Sarah and Danniel Mercado and his wife Rachel as well as his three great grandchildren, Meelo Mercado, Noah Treschitta and Natalie Treschitta. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Marie Giannini Faustine. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Donald and Warren Young. We would also like to thank his special care giver over the past few years, Enoch Frimpong, for his love and continued support.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Friends and relatives may greet the family on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
