Obituary of George M. Figerle Jr.

George M. Figerle, Jr. age 68, of Stratford passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Margaret M. (Decerbo) Figerle. Born in Bridgeport on May 28, 1955, he was the son of the late George M. and Margaret (Murray) Figerle, Sr.

In addition to his beloved wife Margaret of 43 years, survivors include his loving daughters, Marissa Newman and her husband TJ and Laura DaCorte and her husband Andrew Jr., his cherished grandchildren, AJ, Nate, Camden, Taylor, Teagan, Ava and Brooks, three sisters, Florence Barnett (David), Liz Wegrzyn (Tom) and Eileen Barrett (Jimmy), his mother-in-law, Esther Decerbo, three brothers-in-law, Frank J. Decerbo, Paul Decerbo (Maria) and Russ Decerbo and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins as well as numerous close friends, good neighbors, golf buddies and extended work family. He was predeceased by his parents, George Figerle Sr., and Margaret (Murray) Figerle, father-in-law, Frank W. Decerbo, Jr., a brother-in-law, Larry Barrett and a niece, Jennifer Wegrzyn.

George was a 1973 graduate of Bassick High School. He graduated from Bridgeport Engineering Institute with a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. George worked for many years as a Process Engineer for AlliedSignal Aerospace (Honeywell), and a Telecommunications Network Engineer at (SNET) Frontier. While George held many titles in his life, he was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He loved spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports, gardening, golfing, traveling, and being a "Mr. Fix it," as he was a jack of all trades. Recently, George fought a courageous battle with cancer. Through his treatment, George never lost his hope, sense of humor, and light-hearted jokes with his family and nurses. His ability to make others smile and laugh will be dearly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 10:00 am in St. James Church, 2110 Main St., Stratford. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
