Obituary of Douglas H. Card

U. S. Army Veteran Douglas H. (Poppy) Card, Sr., age 78, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Geraldine Gosselin Card, (his Poopsie, whom he dearly missed), passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in St. Vincents Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on December 1, 1932, he was a son of the late Leland T. and Ruth Demmon Card and a U. S. Army veteran. He was a retired supervisor for the United Illuminating Co. and a lifelong Bridgeport resident. An avid Giants fan, he enjoyed his trips to the casino, listening to his country music, playing pinochle and bowling at the Nutmeg Bowl. He thoroughly enjoyed Thursday night bowling with the Monarch Men and Friday afternoons with the Old Timers. Everybody gathered at Poppys house for Sunday Dinners. He was happiest when surrounded by his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Ryan and her husband, Raymond Sr. of Bridgeport, a son, Douglas Card, Jr. and his wife, Dawn of Trumbull, four grandchildren, Ray, Jr. and Kelly Ryan and Taylor and Rachel Card, four great grandchildren, Ray Ryan III, Joseph Ryan and Krysteena and Kyle Botelho, two brothers, Harvey Card and his wife JoAnn of Meriden and Carl Card and his wife Terry of Florida and a sister, Arlene Meeker of Southbury and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Robert Card. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. directly in Stratford United Methodist Church, 2600 Main St., Stratford. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
