Obituary of Charles H. Petrino

Resident of Stratford Charles H. Petrino, age 98, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife and family by his side. Born September 12, 1913, Charlie was the only child of Peter and Elizabeth McSweeney Petrino. He is survived by his wife, Jean Moreland Petrino and daughters Penny Tremblay, Kitty Bliss, Holly Tompkins and step-son Stephen Leath. Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Doty Petrino and daughter Judy Cave. Charles leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Raised in the Hollow section of Bridgeport, Charles enjoyed an enviable career in both baseball and basketball playing on teams such as the Champion Crescents, Monarchs, Auburns, White Eagles, Holy Name, St. Raphaels and Holy Rosary. He then went on to officiate high school and college level games for 16 years. A lifetime member of the Greater Bridgeport Old Timers Association, he served as President in the early 60s. Ironically, Charles business career began as a summer job in the mailroom of the Bridgeport Brass Company where he was recruited to play fast pitch for their summer league. Having proved his athletic abilities and desire to achieve, he stayed on with the company, moving up their executive ladder and retired after 45 years of loyal service. The family expresses their gratitude to the Hospice Care Program for their exceptional care and concern. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in St. Michaels Mausoleum, Stratford. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
