Obituary of Manuel F. Barata
Manuel Francisco Barata, age 93, beloved husband of the late Aline dos Santos Barata, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Born on October 24, 1932 in Foz do Ribeiro, Pampilhosa da Serra, Portugal, he was a son of the late Jose Barata and Luiza Maria. Manuel immigrated to the United States in September 1977, and has been a resident of Bridgeport since. Prior to moving to the United States, he served in the Portuguese armed forces for 2 years as a military policeman. He was a hardworking, selfless, family man, who always put the needs of those he loved first. Manuel has been retired since 1999, and spent his retirement enjoying precious time with his family, both in Portugal and here.
?Manuel adored his great grandchildren the most. He would rave about them daily, Hailey on her incredible artistic skills, Chloe on how her energy and chatter lit up the room, and Julien's love for the Portuguese culture and food; The three of them brought him immense joy. Manuel really enjoyed his countless outings and many jokes and laughs with his brother Isidro and cousin Joe. He also enjoyed tending to his garden, completing those odd jobs around the house and watching his favorite Portuguese soccer team, Belenenses.
Manuel will be missed dearly, and he leaves behind his daughter Manuela Lopes and her husband Jorge, his granddaughter, Nicole Tupka and her husband Michael, his three great grandchildren, Julien, Hailey and Chloe, two brothers, Isidro Barata and his wife Lurdes of Shelton, Adriano Barata and his wife Albertina, two sisters, Ermelinda Barata and Guilhermina Barata of Portugal, as well as several nieces and nephews and family in the United States and Portugal. He was predeceased by a sister, America dos Anjos and two brother-in-laws Manuel Nunes and Sebastiao Barata.
