Obituary of Barbara Elena Giannettino
Barbara Elena Giannettino, 69, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Born in Havana, Cuba, on October 15, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Ignacio and Olga (Cerra) Alvarez and the beloved wife of Andrew Giannettino Jr., with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.
Barbara had a gift for bringing beauty to everything she touched. Whether she was decorating her home, arranging flowers, or preparing for a celebration, she made every detail feel special. She loved sharing that gift with her grandson, passing along her joy for decorating. Her parties were events everyone looked forward to: everything was thoughtfully planned, the house was filled with noise and laughter, and the food never seemed to end. No matter how much everyone ate, there were always plenty of leftovers to send home. The moment someone walked through her door, Barbara made them feel loved, as though they had always been part of the family. To know Barbara was to know kindness, generosity, and love. Knowing her was a blessing and an honor, and those who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives will carry her memory in their hearts always.
Barbara worked at St. Vincent's Medical Center as a medical administrative assistant for more than 40 years. Wherever she was in the hospital, she had a way of making people feel at ease and cared for. She went above and beyond for her patients and built lasting connections with coworkers across every department. It seemed everyone at St. Vincent's knew Barbara, and everyone knew how much she cared.
Barbara was the person everyone turned to and the loving pillar of her family. She kept everyone close, always seemed to know when someone needed her, and was constantly thinking of ways she could help or make someone's day a little brighter. Her faith was at the heart of the way she lived and loved. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were the center of her world, and they knew her love through the countless ways she cared for them each day. She found joy in the simple moments of life and had a way of making those moments special for everyone around her—even when she was cheering on her beloved New York Yankees and Giants.
In addition to her husband, Andrew, Barbara is survived by her son, AJ Giannettino, and his fiancée, Michelle Beeler; her daughter, Barby Gruttadauria, and her husband, Dave; and her cherished grandchildren, Samuel, Beckett, and Laci. She is also survived by her brothers, John Alvarez and his wife, Yvonne, and Jay Alvarez and his wife, Melissa; her mother-in-law, Jennie Giannettino; her sister-in-law, Joann Theis; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
