Obituary of Emmanuel Jean-Louis
Emmanuel Jean-Louis, age 91, of Jacmel, Haiti, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at St. Vincent's Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Solanges (Lamothe) Jean-Louis for 60 years. Born in Jacmel, Haiti, on August 23, 1935, he was the son of the late Albert Jean-Louis and Lemese (Tanis) Jean-Louis and a longtime resident of Bridgeport, Connecticut; Rockland County, New York; Brooklyn and the Bronx, New York.
Emmanuel, affectionately known as "Manno," was hard-working and held two full-time jobs at the peak of his career as a Respiratory Therapist in the Bronx. He loved providing for his family. He always made sure his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him knew how much he loved them. Every day, he made sure he instilled his values: pursuing education, believing in yourself, holding yourself accountable, and being there for one another. When he was in Jacmel, he enjoyed gardening and tending to the land he worked so hard to build. You would find him napping underneath a mango tree in his backyard or rocking gently in his favorite rocking chair every evening before bed. He welcomed anyone to sit at his dining room table for a meal. A passionate storyteller, he loved recounting tales of the good old days and was always ready with a piece of advice or "konsèy" for anyone who needed it. He loved watching Western Cowboy dramas, soccer, and spending every moment with family and friends. Emmanuel was known for aiding relatives and others in need, including at times providing housing under his own roof, schooling, clothing, and more.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Solanges, Emmanuel is survived by his three loving children, Astrid Jean-Louis; Jude Stevenson Jean-Louis and his wife, Fabienne Renelus Jean-Louis; and Ledwin Jean-Louis. Two brothers, Hoover Jean-Louis and Willy Jean-Louis, and two sisters, Roselaine Labidou and Gertrude Jean-Louis. Nine beloved grandchildren: Danielle Corbett and her husband Kyle, Jamilah Sylvain and her husband Kevin, Jeremy Jean-Louis, Tyler Jean-Louis, Daniella Jean-Louis, Jhamal Jean-Louis, Jael Jean-Louis, Victoria Jean-Louis, and Lamarre Jean-Louis. And two cherished great-grandchildren, Kaiden Sylvain and Kallum Corbett, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Hubert Jean-Louis and Amoze Jean-Louis.
