Obituary of Luis Miguel Martins

Luis Miguel Martins, age 56, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August 28, 1970, in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, to Margarida Maria Ferreira Martins of Bridgeport and the late Gilberto Martins.

Luis immigrated to the United States with his family in 1975, making Bridgeport, Connecticut, his home. Throughout his career, he worked as an Executive Chef/Supervisor at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, now Mozaic Senior Life, and was formerly employed by St. Joseph’s Manor.

Luis was a hard-working and devoted man who always did everything he could to provide the best for his family. A talented chef, he found great joy in cooking for the people he loved. He had a wonderful sense of humor, brought happiness to those around him, and embraced life to the fullest. Luis loved deeply and left a lasting impact on his family and friends. Most of all, Luis was a wonderful father to Beatrice. His kindness, humor, generosity, and the values he shared will continue to live through everyone whose life he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

In addition to his beloved mother, Margarida Martins, he leaves behind his cherished daughter, Beatrice Martins; his brother, John Martins (Silvia Martins); his sisters, Lucia Freed and Zelia Martins; his nieces and nephews, Toria Larame (Samuel Larame), his beloved Goddaughter -Cassandra Martins, Piper Freed, and Vail Freed; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Elias, Francesca, “S.J.,” and “J.J.” He will also be deeply missed by his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also, who had a special place in his heart, is his dear friend, Maria Ramos; her daughter Erica Ramos (Kyle Ramos); and their children, Klay, Kody, and Kali.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. directly in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
