Obituary of James Tobit "Toby" Entwistle

James Tobit Entwistle "Toby" age 81, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Katherine Teresa Stimper Entwistle "Terry" passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Englewood, NJ on November 6, 1944, he was the son of the late Harry Entwistle and Edith May Ainsworth Wyman. After the early passing of Toby's father, he was raised by his mother and grandmother, whose strength, love, and example instilled in him the values of hard work, loyalty, resilience, faith, and treating others with kindness and respect.

Toby proudly served six years in the United States Navy before earning his degree from Rutgers University. He went on to build a successful career with General Reinsurance, where he worked for 30 years before retiring. His career provided him with opportunities to travel extensively, both for business and pleasure, something he greatly enjoyed.

After retirement, Toby discovered one of his greatest passions—golf. He loved the game, the challenge, the friendships, and the countless hours spent on the course. Before golf took center stage, he enjoyed many years of fishing with some of his closest friends. He also loved his home, taking great pride in his lawn and gardens, and especially enjoyed feeding and watching the birds that visited his many bird feeders.

Toby's faith was an important part of his life. The church community at Our Saviors Lutheran Church gave him opportunities to worship, serve, and give back to others.

Above all else, Toby treasured his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Katherine Teresa Entwistle "Terry", his partner and best friend throughout their life together. He was immensely proud of his children, Kim Hahn and Kristie Entwistle, and adored his grandchildren, Timothy Hahn and wife Tereze Hahn, Karissa Hahn and her husband Andrew Kim. Nothing brought him greater joy than seeing his family happy and watching his children and grandchildren grow.

Toby was also known for his wonderful sense of humor. He loved making people laugh. He cherished the many friendships he made throughout his life, including friendships that lasted from childhood through his final years.

Toby lived by the simple principles of working hard, keeping his word, caring for those he loved, enjoying life, and treating people well. He was grateful for the many blessings, adventures, friendships, and experiences that filled his life.

In keeping with Toby's generous spirit and lifelong desire to help others, he chose to donate his body to further medical education and research. Even in death, he hoped to make a difference in the lives of others.

Toby leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, memories, and friendships that will be cherished by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine Teresa Entwistle "Terry"; his children, Kim Hahn and Kristie Entwistle, and grandchildren, Timothy Hahn and his wife Tereze Hahn, Karissa Hahn and her husband Andrew Kim and many dear friends.

A celebration of Toby's life will take place on Friday, September 18, 2026 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.directly in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 160 Hill Farm Rd, Fairfield, CT.
