Obituary of Robert William Getts

Robert William Getts, known to everyone as Rob, passed away peacefully in his home on July 8, 2026. A lifelong Connecticut man with a great sense of humor and an even greater heart, Rob leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and devotion to the people he loved most.

Rob was born on March 23, 1963 in Bridgeport, CT to Richard D. Getts Sr and Patricia Mary Fish Getts. He attended Trumbull High School where he met the love of his life Marisa Ann Getts (Savastano). They were married soon after and went on to build a life and family together that Rob was deeply proud of.

At 18, Rob answered the call to serve his country and proudly joined the United States Army. As a member of C53 BT, 3rd Platoon, he completed basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, in June 1982. He continued his training at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, becoming a tracked vehicle mechanic before beginning his first duty assignment at Fort Benning, Georgia. Rob later served overseas at Ayers Kaserne, known as "The Rock," in Germany and completed his military service as an E-4 Specialist. His time in Germany was his first experience traveling internationally and sparked a curiosity and love for exploring the world that continued well beyond his time in the Army. His service was a chapter of his life he carried with great pride and reflected the dedication and strong work ethic that would remain with him throughout his life.

Rob was the kind of guy who could fix just about anything and never hesitated to lend a hand. In 2000, he channeled that hardworking spirit into founding his own business, Shelton Oil & Heating, with Marisa by his side through every stage of its growth and success. Together, they served the Shelton community and the surrounding towns for many years. His customers knew him as someone who genuinely cared, treated people right, and could always be counted on.

When he wasn't working, Rob loved nothing more than spending time with his family and enjoying life. Family vacations created countless memories over the years, with many of his favorite moments spent on the water, boating to Montauk, Nantucket, Block Island, and more. He was always up for a concert or a baseball game, especially when surrounded by the people he cared about most. Wherever Rob went his sense of humor followed. He never missed a chance to crack a joke, make someone laugh, or turn an ordinary moment into a story worth telling.

Rob is survived by his beloved wife, Marisa, his daughters, Jessica Sagar and her husband, Geo, Elizabeth Pickle and her husband, Rich, and his cherished granddaughter, Charlotte Sagar. He was the beloved son of Patricia Mary Getts and the late Richard D. Getts. He leaves behind his brothers, Dwayne Bill and Richard Getts Jr, his sister, Jacqueline Hite, and her husband, Bill. Rob is also survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jeanine and Luis Pereira, Anette Savastano, and James and Ruth Savastano, as well as his many beloved nieces and nephews, including Julie, Ricky, Amanda, Lindsey, Adam, Marco, Christopher, Franco, and Annabella. He will be dearly missed by countless other family members and friends.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 10:30 am directly in St. Stephen Church, 6948 Main St., Trumbull. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Nichols Village Burial Grounds, Trumbull.
