Obituary of Joseph Paul Hanlon
Joseph Paul Hanlon, age 68, of Ansonia, beloved husband of Valeria Thibodeau Hanlon, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on December 6, 1957, he was the son of the late James and Theresa Hanlon of Trumbull.
A welder by trade, Joe was a long-time teacher and Department Head of Welding for the State of Connecticut Technical High School system, having shared his knowledge and skills with countless young men and women over a nearly 40-year career. He taught at Bullard Havens Technical School and Bristol Technical School, receiving a Teacher of the Year award in recognition of his many contributions to his students.
A man of many, many skills, Joe was adept at all of them, earning the nickname "McGuyver". He was the quintessential "Jack of All Trades", and was a resource for friends, family and strangers alike for decades. Joe was very generous, outgoing and caring. A long-time parishioner of Trumbull Congregational Church, he volunteered his time by serving on several committees and as church Sexton for many years. In addition, Joe was a gifted metal artist, having exhibited his kinetic sculptures at local art galleries. He also became a skilled blacksmith, demonstrating and selling his wares at local craft fairs. Joe was truly a "renaissance man".
But above all things in life, Joe was a loving and devoted husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his family, creating memories to last a lifetime. The unconditional love he gave and the values he instilled will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his beloved wife, Valeria, Joe is survived by his two cherished children, Sarah Hanlon and Ky Hanlon. Additional survivors are his brother, James (Patricia) Hanlon and a sister, Janice (Brian) Marschall, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
