Obituary of Brian F. Smith
Brian F. Smith, known to his fire department friends as Dutchie, age 79, of Milford, CT passed away after a brief illness on December 18, 2025. Born in Bridgeport on October 26, 1946, he was the son of the late Clifford and Josephine (Morrissey) Smith of Trumbull. He was raised in Trumbull and attended St. Augustine’s and Fairfield Prep. He was an active volunteer with the Long Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1967-1972 on the U.S.S. Norris and was a recipient of the CT Veterans Wartime Service Medal.
He was appointed in February 1987 as a member of the Bridgeport Fire Department, promoted to Pumper Engineer in February 1998, and retired on a medical disability in October of 2001. Brian was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Milford.
He is survived by his son Christopher Laurence Cass, daughter-in-law Stormey Cass, his siblings, Sheila (James) Burke of San Diego, Mark (Fran) Smith of Trumbull and Doreen (Richard) Quaranto of East Hampton, NY, nieces Coleen (Sean) Fitch of Derby, Heather (Keith) Buxton of NH, Kathleen (Bradley) Burke Panasiti and Margaret (Steven Boyd) Burke, both of San Diego and his grandnieces and nephew, Abigail Buxton, Ansley Buxton and Brennan Fitch. He was the proud godfather of Kathleen and Brennan.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at a celebration of Brian’s life on Friday, June 12, 2026 from 3 – 5 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be private. To leave an online condolence please visit www.abriola.com.
