Obituary of Walter R. Meachen Jr.

Walter "Ray" Meachen, Jr., age 98 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Florence (Gregorio) Meachen. Born in Bridgeport on September 10, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter R. Meachen, Sr. and Julia (Plasco) Meachen and was a longtime resident of Trumbull before moving to Monroe.

Walter joined the United States Navy at the age of 18 and proudly served his country from 1945 to 1946 and was stationed aboard the USS Buchanan during World War II. He later became the owner and operator of the former Colony Restaurant in Black Rock. From 1958 to 1989, he served the Bridgeport community and developed many longstanding friendships. He was a true sportsman and enjoyed golfing and rooting for his New York Yankees and Giants. A longtime member of the Bridgeport Boat Owners Association, he was happiest when fishing on Long Island Sound, especially with his sons. He was a devoted husband, a great father and family man and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his two loving sons, Dan Meachen and his wife Mary McConnell-Meachen and Christopher Meachen, beloved grandchildren, Lauren Camarda and her husband Chris, Sarah Ford and her husband Mike, Matthew Meachen and his wife Ariana, Alexa Lopiano and her husband Ethan, and Sara and Elena Meachen, great grandsons, Adrien and Luca Camarda, and Jack and Sam Ford, a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Meachen and a close friend, Ernesto Araza as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela Bonazzo, her husband Joseph Bonazzo, a grandson Christopher Bonazzo and his sister, Ruth Kunkel.
