Obituary of Josephine Calchera

Josephine (Della Rocco) Calchera, age 101, of Stamford and a longtime resident of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter H. Calchera.

Born in Bridgeport on May 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Constantino and Anna (D'Agoslino) Della Rocco. Mrs. Calchera was proud of her long career with Kelly Services, which spanned nearly 30 years, culminating in her retirement as a regional director.

She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed football, basketball, and baseball. A true music lover, she also had the gift of playing the piano. Music was woven into the fabric of her family — her husband, son, and grandchildren shared a remarkable talent and love for playing the drums.

Most recently, Josephine was honored on her 100th birthday when May 23, 2024, was declared "Josephine Calchera Day" by the City of Stamford — a fitting tribute to a woman who touched so many lives.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving children, Peter A. Calchera of Dripping Springs, TX, and Charlotte Goldstein of Boynton Beach, FL; her cherished grandchildren, Steven Goldstein and his wife Amy Lechko, Melissa Von Salzen and her husband Michael, Peter Calchera, Heather Calchera, and Matthew Calchera and his wife Dorothy; her treasured great-grandchildren, Logan, Hunter, Genevieve, and Marcella; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her devoted husband of 56 years, Peter, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, who she adored, Cheryl Calchera; her son-in-law, Stanley Goldstein; and her sister, Clementine Goldstein.

Josephine's legacy of strength, faith, and unwavering love will live on through her family, whom she held dear to her heart.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Monday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
