Obituary of Italia Lia Iaboni
Italia Lia Iaboni, age 89, of Stratford passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Bridgeport Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Umberto Iaboni. Born in Terracina, province of Latina, Italy on May 5, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Giuseppe Lia and Emilia Pagliaroli Lia DiMario. Italia immigrated to the United States in June of 1968 aboard the USS Independence. Mrs. Iaboni worked at American Fabrics before she devoted her life as a homemaker. She loved to cook and her specialties included homemade pasta, bread and her infamous lasagna. She was meticulous with tending to her vegetable gardens, which produced an abundance of tomatoes that were used in making her own sauce. This involved a jarring process that was perfected over the years and enjoyed by friends and family alike. Italia liked walking along the beach and pistachio ice cream, and the color yellow were her favorites. Her greatest enjoyment however was found in the time she spent surrounded by her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving children, Tiziana Iaboni and Joseph Iaboni, both of Stratford, her cherished grandchildren, Marialia Iaboni of Stratford and her mother, Deborah Liptak, and Emanuela DiIorio and her husband Robert Harriss of Ansonia, her adored great granddaughter, Ashley Harriss, her brothers, Pierino Lia of Stratford and Adriano DiMario of New York, her sisters, Erminia Lia of Stratford and Eleanora DiMario Coppola and her husband George of Cheshire, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband Umberto, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Adelmo Lia and his wife Emma, Carlo Lia and his wife Marisa, and Ginesio Lia, and a sister, Maria Lia Halkowicz.
