Memorial Visitation at Funeral Home
Obituary of George S. Areson
George Areson, 90, passed away peacefully alongside his family on January 7, 2026.
Born and raised in Flushing, New York, George embodied the values of service, dedication, and integrity from an early age. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, an experience that shaped his lifelong commitment to leadership and community. Following his service, he attended St. John's University through the GI Bill, a milestone he often spoke of with pride and gratitude.
George went on to build a distinguished career in finance, holding titles such as CFO and Comptroller for some of the largest companies in America. After achieving his New York State CPA license, he went on to future business and advisory roles. His expertise earned him deep respect throughout his field, including serving on the Board of the U.S. Treasury.
Along his travels, George met the love of his life, Emily, to whom he was married for 60 beautiful years. Together, they created a home filled with warmth and generosity - known as exceptional hosts, George and Emily made everyone feel welcome. They raised their family in Trumbull, Connecticut, where they became beloved and active members of the community and welcomed their three children - Beth, Matthew, and Daniel - into their longtime home.
George held the position of Commander of the local American Legion Post 141, where he spent countless hours organizing fundraisers, coordinating the annual Memorial Day Parade, and enjoying camaraderie with those who had also served. His leadership and devotion left a lasting impact on the local, and statewide veteran community.
With George's lifelong passion for aviation beginning at an early age, he would often tell stories of the returning WWII aircrafts flying over his house as a boy. Later in life, George became a certified pilot of single engine aircrafts, finding joy in flying and attending airshows across the northeast. As a proud pilot, he shared this passion with his sons - one of his proudest moments in aviation came when he had the opportunity to fly in a P-51 Mustang. George later became an honorary Colonel of the Commemorative Air Force, where both he and his brother Paul were heavily engaged in CAF Airbase Georgia.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Emily; his daughter, Elizabeth Jones, her daughter Emily Pisarra, and her husband Ron Jones; his son Daniel Areson and his wife Alexandra Areson, and their children Axel and Boden; and his brother, Paul. He was predeceased by his son Matthew, whom he will hold forever in his heart. George will be remembered for his steadfast character and deep love for his family and unwavering service to his country and community.
