Obituary of Gail Susan Duva
Gail Susan "Sue" Duva (Grossman), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away January 6, 2026 surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.
Born April 5, 1941 in Hartford, Connecticut, Sue went on to graduate from Central High School in Bridgeport, CT. After attending business school, while working at Blue Ribbon Garage, she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Duva. Together they built a life rooted in laughter, adventure, and deep devotion to family.
Sue dedicated her professional life to education and service. She worked with Fairfield University's Upward Bound program, where her caring nature and commitment to students shone brightly, and later retired from a career as Bursar at the Fairfield College Preparatory School, Fairfield, CT. In every role she held, Sue was known for her reliability, kindness, and the way she genuinely cared for the people around her.
Above all else, Sue was the heart and glue of her family. She was the ultimate social coordinator, always making sure everyone was included, remembered, and cared for. She worried about the welfare of others before ever thinking of herself. Her warm heart, fun-loving nature, and thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Sue was a devoted mother to her son Scott and daughter Tracy, and the most extraordinary "NoNo" to her grandchildren. She cherished her grandsons Brody and Cole, whom she lovingly cared for many years until they went off to school. They were not only her pride and joy but also her best friends. Sue adored her grandchildren Hailey, David, Michael, Madison, and Daniel, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Family life with Bob was filled with joy and adventure. Sue treasured summers spent in Rhode Island at the beach—days on the boat, camping with long-time friends, and making lifelong memories with her children and grandchildren. In their earlier years, before becoming parents, Bob and Sue embraced life fully, enjoying boating, water skiing, snow skiing, traveling, and making the most of every moment together.
Sue is survived by her loving husband, Robert "Bob" Duva; her son, Scott Duva and wife Christine; her daughter, Tracy Duva-Ganino and husband Joey; her seven grandchildren, Hailey, David, Michael, Madison and Daniel Duva and Brody and Cole Ganino; her sister, Rhoda Masarek and husband Shep Masarek (predeceased); nieces Jill Abrams and Lori Abrams; two great-nephews and one great-niece; Judith Duva and her husband Vincent Duva (predeceased) who were close cousins and special friends; and her partner in crime, Maxine Duva, along with Maxine's son, Vinny Duva, who was like a second son to Sue and many other family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Theodore Grossman and Ruth Grossman (Wolfe).
Sue's legacy is one of love, inclusion, laughter, and selflessness. She leaves behind a family and community forever changed by her warmth and generosity. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sue Duva can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or at www.T2T.org.
