Obituary of Gina Spezza
Gina DiPietro Spezza, age 93, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Remo Dino Spezza, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Introdacqua, Province of Aquila, Italy on May 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Berardino and Floriana Volpe DiPietro.
Having grown up during WWII, Gina became an engaging storyteller of her coming of age story of hardship, courage and opportunity, including settling in a new country.
In the early years of her marriage, Gina worked alongside her husband to open and run a successful tailoring shop in Italy. Together with her family, she immigrated to the United States in 1963, settling in Bridgeport. She worked for many years at the Seaside Blouse Company in Bridgeport, while starting and raising a family.
Gina was a hard-working woman who provided nothing but the best for her family. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she was a true matriarch who provided love, care, and support to her family. Gina taught the traditions of her heritage and instilled strong values to all, including those of her Catholic faith as a member of St. Margaret Shrine's parish. The unconditional love she gave will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Gina had many interests. She was an avid gardener, cultivating and canning an abundant vegetable harvest each summer. She was also an exceptional cook who delighted in bringing family and friends together around classic Italian dishes. Somehow, she also found time to master fine needlepoint and embroidery. In her later years, she enjoyed watching and listening to opera as well as Italian television programs.
Survivors include her three loving daughters, Adele Beaudry and her husband Eugene of Trumbull, Floriana Spezza and her husband John Knightly of San Francisco, and Angela Spezza and her husband Patrick Faye of Bridgeport, five treasured grandchildren, Nicole and Caitlin Beaudry, Ian and Harlan Knightly and Aiden Faye, four adored great grandchildren, Alex, Aaron, Riley and Mason, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Remo Dino, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Emanuele (Willie) and Laura DiPietro and her sister and brother-in-law, Annetta and Domenico LoStrappo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in the Garden Mausoleum of St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
