Obituary of Ellen M. Colopy

Ellen Marie Colopy of Trumbull, Connecticut passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family members, on the evening of December 22, 2025 at the age of 88.

Ellen Marie was born on July 28, 1937 in Lancaster Ohio. She attended St. Mary's grade and high school and graduated with a degree in biology from Notre Dame College in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked as a real estate agent, in retail and educational sales, with non profits such as the YMCA, and finally as an adult reading teacher in Los Angeles California. She was a life long learner with a curiosity about a variety of subjects. Her hobbies included bird watching, crocheting, and gardening. She was a talented seamstress. Ellen Marie loved dancing, music, singing and playing the piano. She thoroughly enjoyed winning at bingo games and liked playing Scrabble making use of her prolific vocabulary and a stockpile of silly sayings. She made good friends in the variety of places she lived and possessed a terrific sense of humor. Laughter was good medicine for her. Talking and laughing on phone calls with her brothers was really special. She very much missed her small hometown of Lancaster, Ohio. She made frequent trips to New England or Arizona to visit her daughters and grandchildren. Most meaningful to Ellen Marie was her Catholic faith. She was an active member in her community's local parish and often served as a Eucharistic minister or supporter of parish activities.

Ellen Marie is survived by her four daughters: Kathleen (Greg) Wills of Williamsburg, Virginia, Eileen Jackson of Tucson, Arizona, Sheila Bragg of Monroe, Connecticut and Michaela (Scott) Barrett of Middletown Springs Vermont, ten grandchildren: Kaitlin Cumbey, Megan Wills, Caroline Wills, Amy Montague, Alexa Bragg, Lance Michael Bragg, Sophia Bragg, Laura Krajewski, John Robert Carter, Kevin Carter and great-grand daughter Emma Krajewski. Ellen Marie was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Bernadine Colopy, brothers Dick (Hallie and Paz) Colopy and Jerry Colopy. She is survived by her brother Tom (Joanne) Colopy of Raleigh, North Carolina and sister-in-law Kathy Colopy of Lancaster, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11:00 am meeting directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull, CT.

A commital service will be held  on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 11:00 am in St. Mary's Parish in Lancaster, Ohio In lieu of flowers please consider contributions to Ellen Marie's favorite Catholic charities: Christian Appalachian Project, EWTN and FOCUS.
