Obituary of June A. Evans

With hearts full of both sorrow and joyous jubilation, we announce that June Adele Hinton Evans of Sandy Hook, CT was called peacefully to her eternal home on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born on June 9th, 1936 in Grangetown, Cardiff, Wales, to the late Bernard and Constance Sweetland Hinton. Her life was a testament to her enduring faith, a journey with God that began in her childhood and blossomed into a lifetime of love and service.

June's spiritual commitment began at the loss of her father, Bernard, at the age of 3, right after the birth of her sister, Bernadette, "Bernie," as the rest of the United Kingdom entered WW2. Throughout her childhood, she developed her love of reading and writing, playing netball, and attending the Church of England.

Whilst attending an event at Cardiff City Temple at the age of 13, June met the young man that God had created for her, Donald J. Evans. June and Don were married 5 years later, after his service to his country as an infantryman in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.

She was a devoted wife to Don for 70 years and together, they raised 4 sons.

In 1969, June and Don traveled with their 4 sons from Wales to Hartford, CT, for a summer holiday as Don preached at several locations in the Massachusetts and New England area. The Evans family became permanent US residents in 1970 and made their home for the last 55 years in Fairfield County, CT.

In 1987, June officially became "Nana" to her first grandchild. Six in all. Rachel Dawn, Stacie Michelle, Dylan John, Luke John, Morgan Jon, and Blake John. Her legacy continues on with great-grandchildren Brody and Harper [Luke and Summer Evans], Stella and Sophia [Dylan and Alli Evans], Olivia [Stacie and Mike DeFilio], and Jace, Connor, and Miles [Rachel and John Slaney]. Throughout her life, she was not only Nana to her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, but also to many more who attended New Life Church, as she always greeted a child saying, "You can call me Nana."

In addition to her beloved husband Donald, survivors include three loving sons, Paul Evans and his wife Sara, Mark Evans and his wife Debra and Jason Evans and his wife Sandy; five cherished grandchildren, Rachel Slaney and her husband John, Dylan Evans and his wife Alli, Stacie Defilio and her husband Mike, Luke Evans and his wife Summer, and Morgan Giddens and her husband Austin; and Blake Evans. Also, her sister, Bernadette Jones, as well as several nieces and nephews in the UK. She was predeceased by her son, Simon Evans, and her brother-in-law, Phil Jones.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at a celebration of June's life on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT. Family remembrances will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be immediately following at Nichols Village Cemetery, on Cemetery Drive in Trumbull, for those wishing to attend.
