Obituary of Leonard J. Scinto

Resident of Trumbull Leonard J. Scinto, Jr., age 80, of Trumbull, a retired carpenter, died on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 in St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on August 31, 1925, he was a son of the late Leonard J. and Lucy Capuano Scinto, Sr. Mr. Scinto was a decorated Naval Veteran serving on the U.S.S. Hendry during World War II. As a gunner of the landing craft, he served in the campaigns of Saipan and Iwo Jima where he witnessed the raising of the U. S. Flag. He was a semi-pro football player for the Stratford Rockets. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Maria Rosa Ascolese Scinto, a son, Lenny Scinto and his wife, Kathy and a daughter, Sue Paolini and her husband, Richard, all of Trumbull, two brothers, Danny Scinto of Bridgeport and Larry Scinto of Stratford, four sisters, Margaret Meldon of Trumbull, Lucy Basala of North Branford, Lena Kuhar of Trumbull and Rose Marie Scinto of Milford, four grandchildren, David, Rachel, Lisa and Chrissy and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment with military honors will follow in the St. Monica Mausoleum of Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
