Obituary of Eleanor M. Gavlik

Eleanor Mildred Gavlik, age 96 of Stratford and formerly Trumbull passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was the beloved wife of 58 years of the late Stephen A. Gavlik. She was born in Bridgeport on September 30, 1921 and was the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Julia Slivka Previs.

Eleanor retired from Bridgeport Machines where she was a keypunch operator. She had a love of her flower and vegetable gardens at her home in Trumbull. She loved sewing many items for the house and family, acting as the family seamstress. In retirement she was devoted to her church, Holy Trinity Lutheran in Trumbull where she participated and worked many of the functions at the church. Along with sewing she was also was an avid knitter and knitted many hundreds of hats for the church which were given to the needy. Her all time passion was the UCONN women's basketball team and watched every game for the past 15 years. When not watching a UCONN game she enjoyed watching game shows, doing Sudoku puzzles and reading.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Diane Gavlik Cresiski and her husband Raymond C. Cresiski of Stratford, three granddaughters, Cheryl Cresiski of Chandler AZ, Kimberly Cresiski of Milford, Kristin Cresiski Kula her husband Tomasz and great grandson, Chase Rogers of Henderson NV. In addition she is survived by sisters, Dorothy Beno of Easton, Ruth Bergmann of Keene N.H. and a brother, Michael Previs of Trumbull as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Stephen she was predeceased by brothers, George and Robert Previs and sisters, Ethel Horvath and Blanche Wargo.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. directly in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
