Obituary of Madeline A. Ouimette

Madeline A. Carroll Ouimette, One of Connecticut's oldest residents, age 108, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Omer J. Ouimette. Born in Whitman, MA, on June 5, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Exilda Ladouceur Carroll. Madeline went on to beautician school when she was very young and had her own beauty salon by the age of 25. Then came her children which became the center of her life. Madeline had been employed by Sikorsky Aircraft, where she worked as a seamstress and was very proud to have been involved with the fabrication and upholstery work on President Lyndon B. Johnson's aircraft. When she retired she started making and selling Victorian pillows up into her 90's. Her pillows were little works of art and treasured by many. She loved gardening and tending to her flowers, especially roses. She also found great enjoyment painting and was enjoying taking art classes well into her nineties. Madeline looked forward to time spent with her family and cherished many fond memories while vacationing with her children and grandchildren on Cape Cod and in Pennsylvania. Her faith in God was extremely important to her and she believed in the power of prayer. She would always say, "I'm going to put you in my prayer box." This was her miracle box and it was so amazing how so many were answered. At her early age of 100, she decided to give up driving but continued to keep her driver's license updated just in case. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving children, Carol McCrain of Exton, PA, Donald Ouimette and his wife Deanna of Trumbull and Linda Bouffard and her husband Richard, also of Trumbull, her sister, Eleanor Skawinski of Florida, as well as thirteen grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Lee and Edward "Buck" Carroll and her sister, Doraise Harkins. All services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
