Obituary of Raymond E. Varga

Raymond E. Varga, 78, of Fairfield and Bridgeport died peacefully on August 14, 2017 after a long illness. Ray was born in Perth Amboy, NJ. He grew up in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield Prep. After serving time in the Air Force, he graduated from Fairfield University and began a lifelong career as an English teacher at Central High School and Central Magnet High School in Bridgeport, CT. "Mr. Varga" was known for his rotten puns, his love of Shakespeare, and most of all his high expectations and pride in his students. He enjoyed rooting for the Yankees and Giants as much as he enjoyed rooting against the Red Sox and Patriots. Ray loved gardening, spending time at the Mountains, and winning at cribbage or any other game of cards, but all paled in comparison to his love for his four grandchildren Emily, Lauren, Matthew and Amanda. Ray was also blessed with the love of many devoted nephews and nieces, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy the company of his family. Raymond was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Cecelia Varga, and his brother, Robert E. Varga. He is survived by his brother, Michael Varga and wife Rhea of Fairfield, his daughters Wendy Varga of Fairfield, Susan Williams and husband Patrick of Cumberland, Maine, and Sharon Bean and husband Michael of Shelton, his sister-in-law, Louise Varga of Easton, his four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ray's family sends special thanks to all of the people that helped care for him and for whom he always had a kind word, especially the nurses and staff at DaVita Black Rock in Fairfield. A Funeral service will take place on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492.
