Obituary of Robert E. Thompson

Robert Elliott Thompson, 81, of Trumbull, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital with his family by his side. Robert was born on December 29, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Mary Ellen and William Thompson. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Arleen Thompson, his only son, Scott Elliott Thompson and wife Joanne Thompson, and his two granddaughters Jayme and Nicole. Robert is one of five siblings and is survived by his brother Norman and wife Bernice of New York. He was predeceased by his brothers James and William and sister Maureena. Robert is also survived by his sister-in-law Lorraine and husband Charles Griebell, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Robert began his career as a draftsman for Brooklyn Navy Yard. He later became a salesman for Grinnell Corporation, followed by sales at Jenkins Brothers Valves where he retired as Assistant Vice President after 25 years. He then was employed by Fairbanks Corporation as Vice President of Sales. He made his final retirement from WT Hight Company in Massachusetts. He was a baseball and hockey coach and avid golfer. He was a member of Tashua Knolls Golf Course Men's Club, where he enjoyed many years of golf with his dedicated and loving friends. In the off season he enjoyed bowling. He loved spending time with his family, especially watching his granddaughters play softball. We will miss his laugh and smile along with his sarcastic and dry sense of humor. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plain Road Trumbull.
